Plants in the spotlight

The exhibition 'Plants in the Spotlight' is on until September 30th at the Hortus Botanicus. It shows great biodiversity with fifty different plants. All are listed as endangered species.

Portraits by Frans Pannekoek

From June the 25th until October the 3rd Frans Pannekoek's works of art are on display at the Rembrandt house. His dry needle prints of landscapes, animals and self-portraits are highly regarded.

Miro & Jan Steen together

From June 17th until September 13th the series Dutch interiors by Joan Miro can be seen. Two scenes by the 17th century masters Hendrick Sorgh and Jan Steen inspired him to make three paintings that represent his early surreal period.

The Amsterdam Gay Pride

Next week the Gay Pride kicks off. The canal parade is the highlight on the 7th of August. The Gay Pride is organised by gay entrepreneurs and individuals to show the diversity of this community. The boat parade leaves from the back of Central Station to sail past The Westerdok and the Oude Schans to the Oosterdok.

Forty years of Fred de la Bretoniere

It all started in the St. Luciensteeg forty years ago. Fred set out to design shoes and bags in his studio. After this first shoe thousands more followed.

Dancing for the World Championship streetdance

It was a spectacular final in Hotel Arena last night. The crews, including the Amsterdam-based Rebels and Looney Tunes competed for a place in the Street Dance World Championships.Their fate is in hands of the stars of the dance movie Step Up which opens tonight.

Ballet on Polish sail ship

The Polish ship Fryderyck Chopin is touring Europe. It's moored on the IJ.This was celebrated last night, with ballet. The goal is to highlight Poland as a tourist destination. The ship leaves Amsterdam tomorrow, so won't be here for Sail which kicks off on the 19th of August.

View day Ajax a success

The Ajax motor bike was on the road for Ajax's Open House today. Thousands of fans of all ages came to admire their heroes. Some in full regalia.

Floating swimming pool

This colossus, measuring 59 by 16 feet,sailed on the Amstel this afternoon.Holland's first floating swimming pool and it'll moor up at the Amstel Station.The pool will open to the public at the end of August.
