Breakfast for Rembrandt
Famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn was born on 15 July, 1606. On his 404th birthday the Rijksmuseum is organizing a breakfast garden party. From 9 to 11 am, admission, breakfast and audio and guided tours are free.
All eyes on Museum square
On Sunday, Holland played the World Cup final. 180.000 orange-clad Dutch supporters watched the game on Museum square. The foreign media were out in force.
Lions playing football
This afternoon, the lions at Artis Zoo were given a proper World Cup football. At first they seemed uninterested, but then they started to play. After the match, the lions celebrated by wrecking the ball.
10 years ISH
On 10 July, ISH celebrated its tenth anniversary. The crossover dance company took the world by storm with their mixture of hiphop, skate, house, martial arts and acrobatics. The Anniversary performance took place in Paradiso.
Cricket in forest
Invented in England, the dignified sport of cricket is fairly unknown in Holland. Local cricket club VRA, however, has been active since 1885.
Suprise fashionshow
Last night, a remarkable spectacle took place on Vijzelgracht: A fashion show on the balcony of a well-known hotel with staff modelling their new uniforms.
Artis summernights
In July and August, you can enjoy Artis Zoo at night. On Saturday evenings the zoo will stay open until sunset. Students from the Amsterdam Conservatory will play classical music and jazz. The evening ends with a guided tour of Artis by twilight.
Vondelpark open air theater
The Vondelpark Open-Air Theatre reopened on 6 June with daily shows ranging from ballet to jazz. This Sunday it will be classical music, with Duo Buitenlant-Reitz at noon followed by Ensemble Lumaka at 12:30 om. Admission is free.
