Second metro drill departed
Noortje, the second North-South metro line drill has started her work. Work on the tunnel under Rokin, Dam and Damrak has now begun in earnest. The machine was switched on last Monday.
City beachclub at Sloterplas
There's Strand West near the Houthavens. Upmarket Strand Zuid near Amsterdam RAI. And of course Blijburg in Zeeburg. Difrim Beach Club Amsterdam is not pulling in the crowds yet but the organisers are confident that next week this will change.
Wanted: designers
The Central Station area is still being refurbished. To make the area look nicer and give a taste of the city's art and culture the city council has facilitated various temporary art projects.
Cultural Market: uitmarkt
It's the last weekend in August: time for the Uitmarkt. This year it's in the centre. Admission is free. On Museumplein,
Leidseplein and in Vondelpark a host of artists, theatre companies and institutions take to the stage.
Foreign students looking for housing
This year an unprecedented number of foreign students are looking for housing. At the three main institutes of higher
education demand has risen sharply.
Anne Frank tree has fallen
The Anne Frank tree has fallen. It did not hit any houses, but the gardens have become a chestnut jungle. But not for long. In two or three days there'll be a large crane on Keizersgracht.
Africa in the picture
Enjoy the end of summer with films from and about Africa. From 28 August to 11 September the Africa in the Picture film festival will put on free open air screenings on the squares of Amsterdam.
Tall ships on the move
On Monday morning the SAIL tall ships left for IJmuiden. Last weekend 1.5 million people visited the Oostelijke Handelskade to admire the impressive vessels.
